Caught In A Web

Web Lingerie by Damage

Detail 1: Panty & Crotch Spider

Oh, what tangled webs we weave...

Detail 2: Bra Top & Nipple Spiders

At least every two or three weeks, I wander through the “Search” function of SL, looking for lingerie stores. One never really knows what you’ll find – and at Damage, I found an ecclectic mix of clothing, jewelry, and fun, pervy accessories. I got to chat a bit with the owner/designer – Dave Carmichael – and asked him directly: What was his favorite creation in the lingerie genre? He pointed me to the Web Lingerie Set and the Magic Marker teddy. Both were interesting, but the prim additions for the Web Lingerie pushed it to the forefront. (Ok, I admit it, I’m still not ready to give up on Halloween, even if it was a month ago. And I have no interest hearing about it almost being Christmas time. Bah Humbug!)

What’s “Just Right”: Unquestionably, it’s the prim work on the attachable spiders where the highest quality is found. The spiderweb bodysuit (underwear/shirt layer) is interesting and uses realistic web patterns, and I like the angular plunge of the back. The bra and panties are barely there, and you’ll definitely want a ‘smokeless’ skin to wear with them. The panty has flattering -if scanty – lines.

What Could Use Improvement: More clarity of detail on the actual clothing pieces would have been lovely. In this case, it wasn’t an issue of breast size – one of the girls from SLU, Electic Wingtips (who has a store full of very fun things, by the way: In World / The Marketplace) who is much more delicately curved than I, was kind enough to try it on for me. Even her “A” cups revealed significant pattern distortion/fuzziness – which still showed even when she modified her shape to 0. The spiders come with a built in ‘bling’ feature, and it’s my personal preference that such items be shipped ‘Bling Off’ with an option to turn it on… there aren’t instructions on how to do so in the product itself – I found out how by reading their Marketplace ad.

Other Things To Note: The store does have a presence on the SL Marketplace, but not all items in world are mirrored there. There’s a jewelry set that was made to match this outfit (which you can see in the pictures), and it is available on The Marketplace. Itsy Bitsy Tiny Prims!! To some degree, I think Mr. Charmichael missed his calling: the jewelry and prim work on the spiders and necklace was stronger than all the other clothing items I saw in the shop.

More Things To Note: My conversation with Mr. Carmichael took some odd and unexpected turns. He expressed his offense that I, as a submissive (per my profile), did not use an honorific for him when we were speaking about his fashions. I politely explained that had we met socially, my demeanor would have been different, but that when I am ‘working,’ I speak neutrally and don’t use power-exchange honorifics. The conversation went downhill from there, including fairly graphic insults regarding my (RL and SL) partner, whom he has never met. If you dig the outfit, I encourage you to shop at Damage… But I’d have to recommend caution when speaking with the owner. 😦

Disclaimer for full disclosure: Prior to the conversation getting strange, the designer was kind enough to gift me a copy of the outfit in white and the jewelry to match, but I liked it enough that I purchased a copy in another color as well. I was already feeling uncomfortable enough that I made sure to purchase a copy of everything I was gifted, so there wouldn’t be any sense of obligation or debt.

Featured Outfit Details:
Price: 299L
Pieces: 6 Clothing Layer pieces, 3 prims: 2 versions of the nipple spiders (one for smaller breasts/cleavage, the other for larger bustlines) and 1 pelvis spider
Availability: The Web Lingerie outfit is offered in three color options: Silver Sheer, Silver & White, and Black Titanium.

Ratings:
Detailing: B-. There’s just way too much distortion in the breast area; no clarity of detail. But the design concept itself is unique and nifty, which is why I went ahead and blogged it.
Prim Attachments?: Spiders for the nipples and crotch. (Ok, how often do you read THAT!?)
Resizing Scripts?: None.
Tattoo Friendly?: No – to wear the full outfit, you’ve got items on underwear/undershirt, shirt, and pants. No room for a tattoo or skin oil, unless it’s on a Viewer 2 tattoo layer.
Curvy Girl Friendly?: No.
Multi-purpose pieces?: The full ensemble is a cute costume that could easily be accessorized into a Drow Princess/Priestess outfit…
Sim Rating?: Threlkeld is rated Mature.

Bentham Forest

And Yet More Notes: On my first visit to Bentham Forest, within seconds of arriving in the sim and setting off to explore, I stumbled into a GIANT FREAKING SPIDER. (I’m an arachnophobe.) *breathe* Ok. Well. That would be perfect for this outfit, then, even if my skin would be crawling the whole time. I can do it. Upon returning to the sim to do the shoot, I spent over an hour and a half searching the place to find the creepy critter. Couldn’t find it. Rodeejah from SLU was kind enough to portal in to try and help me. So thank you, Rodeejah, for your help! (As it turned out, the spider was an avatar – the group bot for the area – and when I returned, it was underneath the sim surface and not accessible for the shoot. Which I can’t really say I’m too broken up about.)

Well, yer welcome, ma’am. Also, it’s too bad the creator was such an ass. That can really downgrade your business even if you make supremely high quality stuff.

    Nice spider webs though. 😀
